Writing The Gifted Series
The Highs, The Lows, and What’s Coming Next
Writing The Gifted Series has been one of the most personal and powerful experiences of my life.
When I sat down to write Serenity’s story, I didn’t have all the answers. I just knew I had this young girl in my head, someone who felt out of place, someone who carried a power she didn’t ask for, and someone who reminded me a little too much of myself. I didn’t expect that four books later, I’d still be uncovering parts of her journey… and parts of mine.
The Story Behind the Story
This series started with a simple “what if.”
What if a girl were born into a legacy she knew nothing about?
What if she had to figure out who she was while the world around her tried to define her?
As I kept writing, those questions grew deeper. What if your greatest power came from your deepest pain? What if the people you loved became the hardest ones to trust?
Writing about witches, prophecies, and ancient covens might sound like a wild ride (and it is), but underneath all the fantasy is a story about family, identity, and survival.
The Emotional Work
I won’t sugarcoat it, this series wasn’t easy to write. Some scenes left me drained for days.
Digging into Serenity’s trauma, watching Priscilla fall deeper into darkness, writing the heartbreak between Thomas and Serenity… these moments hit me hard because they came from real emotions.
Even though the world is fictional, the pain, grief, confusion, and love are all very real. And writing them meant going to those dark places in my own heart. Sometimes, I had to stop and walk away. Other times, I had to write through the tears.
But here’s the thing, those hard chapters? They’re the ones who taught me the most. They showed me that healing isn’t always pretty, but it’s possible. And strength doesn’t mean being fearless. It means showing up, even when you’re afraid.
Breakthroughs That Changed Everything
One of the biggest turning points in writing The Gifted Series came when I stopped worrying about “what should happen” and leaned into “what feels honest.” That shift gave me characters who are messy, complicated, and human, even if they’re immortal.
It’s why readers connect with Serenity’s doubts, Priscilla’s anger, or Ingrid’s quiet strength. Because we all know what it’s like to carry things we didn’t choose, to protect people we love, or to lose ourselves while trying to save someone else.
Another breakthrough? Learning that the story doesn’t have to be perfect, it just has to be true. Once I accepted that, the words flowed more freely. The world of The Gifted Series opened up in ways I never imagined.
What’s Coming Next
Now that four books are out in the world, I get one question more than any other: “Is this the end?”
The answer is “not yet.”
I’m currently working on the final installment of the series, and let me tell you, it’s the most intense one yet. Big decisions. Big battles. And a few surprises, I can’t wait for you to read.
Beyond that? I’m exploring some exciting new ideas in supernatural horror, RomCom, and LGBTQ+ fiction. Every story I write comes from a place of truth, and I’m always chasing that feeling, the spark that started it all.
